LAWN TENNIS
ENTRIES FOR WINTER COMPETITION
Seven entries, including one from the Army, have been received for the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association’s annual winter inter-club competition for the Hawkins Shield. There is a possibility, too. of an entry from the Air Force, which will obviate the necessity for a bye, The competition will start on May 3, and the other entrants are as follows; —Elmwood (two), Avonslde, Addington, Woolston, and University.
REDUCED ENTRIES FOR EASTER TOURNAMENT
■Less than half the number of entries accepted last year has been received by the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association for its Easter tournament and, although trophy values have been reduced, a loss is faced by the association, reported the secretary, Mr S. W. Jameson, at a meet* ing o I: the management committee last evening. Mr E. A. Lee presided. Jn the interests of tennis, however, It was decided that all sections should be continued and that expenses should be kept as low as possible.
