—♦- MAGISTRATE’S COURT At the Magistrate’s Court yesterday, before Messrs F. E. Sutton and W. C. Cleary, Justices of the Peace, George Day, a seaman, pleaded guilty to a charge of stealing three tins of ,iam, two tins of herrings, one pot of honey, and a bottle of sauce, of a total value of 7s IJd. James Boyd, a member of Z Company, Coastal Defence Forces, pleaded guilty to having received the goods, knowing them to have been dishonestly obtained. ~ „ , Senior-Sergeant D. Wilson said that at 10.15, on Monday night the two accused passed Constable Fraser on the wharf: The constable heard them remark, “We’ve passed them, anyway.’’ The constable followed Boyd and, finding the goods on him, arrested him. Constable Fraser and another constable later arrested Day, who was drunk. The theft of ships' stores was regarded as a serious matter. Each of the accused was fined £2, in default 14 days’ imprisonment. On a charge of drunkenness Day was convicted and discharged. rfVHE LYITELTONTeRFT ' J- LAUNCHES, LTD.
