OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, February 23. The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington,'and dealing wPh the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: North-easterly winds on the coast, otherwise north-westerlies prevailing and later becoming strong in exposed positions. Weather fair to fine and warm. Seas light. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast is;— Fresh north-westerly winds soon prevailing. Weather cloudy, with drizzle later developing in the south. Temperatures mild. Sea moderate, but a considerable swell developing. DOMINION The Dominion forecast Is:— Fair to fine with mild to warm temperatures, cloud Increasing in western districts, however, and later drizzle developing in the far south-western portion of the South Island. The anti-cyclone that has been stationary over New Zealand during the last few dpys is now beginning to move eastwards: a- depression is located south of Tasmania. Winds—Moderate easterlies in the far north, elsewhere northerlies or north-wester lies prevailing, moderate at first but gradually becoming strong about and south of Cook Strait. Seas—Becoming rough ,at Cook Strait; elsewhere, slight to moderate, hut later rising south' of Farewell Spit. Eastern Tasman Sea—Northerly to north-westerly winds soon prevailing; force light to moderate in the northern portion, with moderate seas, but becoming strong in the south, with rather rough seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day in Christchurch was fine and very warm, the sky remaining brilliantly clear until the early evening. Winds were light and from the south all day. Fog developed later in the evening. At 1 o’clock this morning there was still heavy fog over the city, with a slight south-westerly breeze blowing. The temperature was 58 degrees. The barometer at 30.05 inches (1017.6 millibars) was steady.
