NEW MINISTER FOR RAILWAYS

MEETING WITH WORKERS’ ORGANISATION WELLINGTON, February 6. The new Minister for Railways (the Hon. R. Semple) made his first official contact with representatives of the Amalgamated Society of Railwaymen when he attended the biennial conference in Wellington. He was cordially welcomed and assured of the maximum co-operation from members of the organisation in his desire to run the railways at a maximum degree of efficiency. After his address, the conference resolved to pledge its complete co-opera-tion with the Government, through the Minister, in the Government’s war effort, and reaffirmed its complete confidence in the Labour Government and pledged the fullest possible co-opera-tion with the Minister in efforts to assist workers in the railway service.
