The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing With the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: — Easterly winds, strong at times on i{ the coast and moderate inland. i Weather fine and milder. Sea mod--11 crate, but with considerable south- * eriy swell. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is;— Moderate and variable winds, easterlies in the morning and 1 south-westerlies In the afternoon. I Weather fair to fine and milder. Sea moderate. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is;— Fair to fine over most of the country. Isolated showers continuing on the Southland coast, however, and drizzle still likely in the extreme north. Temperatures rising. An almost stationary anticyclone covers the Tasman Sea and New Zealand. Pressure is low south of the Chatham Islands, and a tropical cyclone is located north of Lord Howe Island. Winds—From a southerly quarter. Force mainly moderate, but strong at times on the east coast and in the far north. . Seas —Moderate, with considerable southerly swell. Eastern Tasman Sea —Moderate and variable winds in the southern portion, with moderate seas. Fresh to strong southerly to southeasterly winds in central and northern portions, with rather rough seas. _ CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The day was brilliantly fine, with a moderate southerly breeze. The maximum temperature was 71.6 degrees. At 1 o’clock this morning the i sky was overcast, with no wind.
