RESTRICTED DEALINGS AND QUIET MARKETS DEMAND FOR GOVERNMENT LOANS Markets were quiet on the Christchurch Stock Exchange yesterday, and dealings were restricted to a few stocks. Government Loans had a strong demand, but there were few sellers. Buyers of New Zealand Government K b°uds. 1953-57. moved up to 100 10s, no sellers offering. The 1940-43 and 1946 stock were firmer with buyers at £lO2 2s 6d, and £lO4 re-1 spectively. I Bank of New South Wales were firm at £29 12s 6d. Bank of New Zealand were fractionally weaker with sellers and dealings at 41s. Broken Hill Proprietary remained unaltered with dealings at 465, mar- ; ket closing 45s lOd buyers, 46s sellers. Canterbury Saleyards (cum div.) were I weaker with business at 37s 6d, mar- : ket closing 35s 6d buyers, 38s sellers.
