CANTERBURY CASH CLUB The Canterbury Cash Cycle Club held two road races last evening at Halswell. 1 The senior event was decided over a 12mile out and home course and the junior race was decided over a six miles and a quarter block. L. Arnst, the limit rider in the senior race, was holding a lead of 40sec at half-way. and was Imin 40sec In front of the scratch men, J. H. Newlove, D. A. Morland, A. J. Tomson, and B. N. Evans. Two miles from home, Arnst was headed by H. J. Crofts, R. Sutherland, J. W, Soper, and A. C. Porter. These four riders held the lead to the finish in the order mentioned. Crofts beating his comarkers by very narrow margins for first place. J. H. Newlove, the first scratch man to finish, secured tenth place and beat his co-marker, D. O. Morland, by inches for fastest time. The finish was;— H, J. Crofts (handicap 2min), time 28inln 40sec, 1; R. Sutherland (2min). 28min 40 1- 2; J. W. Loper (2min), 28min 40 2- 3; A. C. Porter (2mln), 28min 40 4-ssec, 4; R, H. Knight (Imin), 27min 50scc, 5; K. E. Johnston (Imin), 27mln 50 l-ssec, 6; ±J. Doyle (Imin). 28min 14scc, 7; M, Drake (2min), 29min Ifisec, 8; L. Arnst (61mln), 33min 46sec, 9; J. H. Newlove (scr), 27min 42sec, 10; D. A. Morland (scr), 27min 42 l-ssec, 11. L. Knight, one of the limit riders, led all the way in the junior race and crossed the line 20sec ahead of A. Smith, who secured second place. H, Sutherland, the first scratch man to finish, secured fourth place and registered fastest time. The finish was:—L, Knight (handicap 3min), time, 24min. 1; A. Smith (Imin), 22min 20sec, 2; D. E. Baker (Imin), 22mm 21sec, 3; H. Sutherland (scr), 22min lOscc, 4.
