DOMESTIC HELP ON FARMS
APPEAL TO TOWNSWOMEN At a meeting of the Waimate Primary Production Committee, a scheme for solving the difficult problem of providing help for farmers’ wives during the busy season was discussed. Some time ago an appeal was launched through the Waimate branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union asking townswomen to spend their vacation helping on farms, and in view of the approach of the harvest, the_ committee has decided to support another appeal. Mr A. W. J. Robinson, a member of the committee and president of the Waimate Farmers’ Union, stated recently that as harvest was at hand, and the question of help for farmers’ wives was therefore even more serious than previously, h* wished to repeat the appeal made by the Mayor of Waimate (Mr G. Dash) and the Farmers’ Union which was made to women who were willing and able to act as companion helps to the wives of farmers who could not get assistance. “Those women who have _ already offered their services are proving to be a blessing indeed,” said Mr Robinson. “That is amply proved by reports. Help in the home is very difficult to get, and I therefore appeal to any woman or girl who can give only a few weeks assistance on a farm to communicate with the secretary of the Waimate branch of the Farmers’ Union (Mr A. J. Hoskins), who has agreed to act as secretary for this special appeal.
