REFUSAL TO WORK ON SUNDAYS
COOL STORE EMPLOYEES WANT CLAIMS MET (press association telegram.) AUCKLAND, December 20. About 140 cool store workers employed by the Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Company, Ltd:, who refused to handle frozen butter and cheese last Sunday for loading on to two waiting overseas vessels because their claims for rates of pay and conditions for Sunday work, similar to those of waterside workers, were not met, were addressed at a meeting to-day by Mr C. L. Hunter, liaison officer of the Labour Department, and by Mr E. E. Price, chairman of the Waterfront Control Commission, who explained the position as it affected shipping. The men made no change in their resolution not to work on Sundays until their claims are met, and consef quently no work will be done in the cool stores on the waterfront on Sunday while an overseas ship is loading
