OPEN TOURNAMENT AT FLORIDA
FERRIER IN AMATEUR PLAY-OFF (Received December 16, 7.30 p.m.) MIAMI SPRINGS, December 15. In the Florida open golf tournament. Jim Fcrrler returned 76 for the third round, giving him a total of 214 for the 54 holes. He finished jn a tie with Earl Christiansen, of Miami, loading the amateur field, but behind 18 professionals, who had 213 or better.
Ferrler liad excellent drives, but seemed to lose his putting touch. His 214 was 4 above par, Ferrler, who was angry, declared; "Tomorrow I will burn up the course.” Ferrler finished (he open with 73 for a total of 287. Ferrler finished the round 3 above par. He declared: "My putting was sour.”
He plans to drive to the West Coast to compete in several tournaments and then return to Australia.
Ferrier tied wjth Earl Christiansen for the amateur honours and participates in the amateur play-off on Monday. Nelson won the tournament with 271 from Heafner with 272. CHRISTCHURCH CLUB ELECTION OF OFFICERS An appeal In members (o continue with their golf, and encourage friends to play, was made by the captain of the Christchurch Golf Club (Mr R. W. Morgan) at the club’s annual meeting last evening. With 53 members away with the fighting forces, the club would naturallv experience difficult times, he said, and he urged members to co-operate in every possible way.
