The Leader of the Opposition (Mr S. G. Holland) was in Invercargill at the week-end. Mr Holland, who has recently acquired a farm in North Canterbury, visited Southland to investigate sheepfarming methods and inspect Romney Marsh stock. He will return to Christchurch this morning.
The Hon. A. Hamilton, a member of the War Cabinet, arrived in Christchurch on Saturday from Wellington. He spoke at the parade of troops in the city and later visited Burnham camp. To-day he will* inspect the Wigram and Harewood aerodromes. He will return to Wellington this evening.
Mr W. H. Joyce, retiring registrar of the Christchurch Technical College, received injuries to the loft leg when he was knocked jfrom his bicycle by a motor-truck at 6.5 p.m. on Saturday at the corner of Armagh street and Stanmore road. He was admitted to the Christchurch Public Hospital. His condition last night was reported to be satisfactory. The Rev. D. M. Horcus, who has been appointed chaplain to and a member of the staff of Scots College, Wellington, is a son of Mr E. J. D. Hercus, of the Christchurch Boys’ High School. He was ordained in 1931, and his first church was Brooklyn. He is at present in charge of a parish in Marlborough. He is a member of the Board of Governors of Marlborough College, and Moderator of the Presbytery of Nelson-Marlborough.
