FREEZING WORKS DISPUTE
DECISION LEFT TO MINISTER
VISIT OF LIAISON OFFICER A national disputes committee sat in Christchurch yesterday to consider the dispute which has arisen at the Belfast
works of Thomas Borthwick and Sons, Ltd., over the refusal of the company to engage for this season a butcher previously employed. Mr C. L. Hunter, the liaison officer of the Labour Department, was appointed by the Minister for Labour Ohe Hon. P. C. Webb) to preside at
the meeting of the committee. Although the sitting continued until the afternoon, no settlement was made, and Mr Hunter will now report to the Minister. Mr Hunter will return to Wellington to-night. Meanwhile, killing is proceeding without interruption at the Belfast works of the company.
