RETIREMENT IN WAR TIME
PERMISSION NOW NECESSARY PUBLIC SERVANTS AND TEACHERS (press association telegram.) ■WELLINGTON, December 12; Superannuation Emergency Regulations, 1040, are published with tonight’s Gazette. These provide that, notwithstanding anything to the contrary in any act, no person who is a conributor to the Public Service Superannuation Fund, the Teachers’ Superannuation Fund, or the 'Government Railways Superannuation Fund shall, during the continuance of the present war, be entitled to retire from the service mn superannuation without the consent of (1) in the case of a contributor to the Public Service Superannuation Fund, of the appointing authority of the department or office in which such pet son is employed; >2» in the case of a contributor to the teachers’ Superannuation Fund of the Minister for Education; or'(3) in the case of a contributor to the Government Railways Superannuation Fund, of the appointing authority under Section 3 of the Government Railways Amendment Art,. 1930, The regulations also stipulate that where any person who, but for the provisions of these regulations would be entitled at any time during the continuance of the war to retire from the service on superannuation, is retained in the service he shall not be obliged to contribute to the superannuation fund in respect of salary received by him for the period during which he is so retained, and in any case the said period shall not be taken into account jn computing the amount of the retiring allowance. The rights of persons to a retiring allowance will also not be prejudicially affected by reason of their retention in the service.
