Disapproval of the use of temporary pedestrian crossings at or near schools was expressed last evening by- members of the executive of the South Island Motor Union when they were asked by the Transport Department to comment. It was stated that the North Island Motor Union had already approved the use of temporary crossings, provided they were used only when a school patrol was present. The executive expressed the view that it had no objection to crossings being provided where necessary, but it considered they should be made permanent and not temporary, so as to avoid the confusion which would inevitably result from the unauthorised use of temporary crossings by persons other than school children.
