GALL TO ASHBURTON MINISTER
St. David’s Presbyterian Charge A meeting of St. David’s Presbyterian congregation, Christchurch, on Wednesday evening decided to extend a call to the Rev. D. D. MacLachlan, of Ashburton South. Mr MacLachlan was born in Scotland and educated at Glasgow. During the Great War he served as a radio operator in the Mercantile Marine. After coming to New Zealand he continued his education, in 1922, at Otago University College, Dunedin, and Knox TheologU cal Hall. During this period he was in charge of Opoho Presbyterian Church and assisted in building it into a self-sustaining charge. For six and a half years he was stationed at Waikaka Valley, Gore, where the debt was cleared off a new hall and a new church was built, In 1935 he was appointed to the Ashburton South Presbyterian charge, which has shown good progress under his guidance. The three churches in the charge have been renovated and a new hall has been built, and missionary and general funds have reached their highest point for the last 50 years. Mr MacLachlan has been Moderator of the Ashburton Presbytery on two occasions. For the last three .years he has been convener of the youth committee.
