The Canterbury Women’s Club has received from her Excellency Lady Galway, a framed autographed photograph of herself, with her kind regards to all members. Lady Galway was warden of the club, and was an honoured guest at receptions given at the club when she visited Christchurch, Mrs J. H. Hall (formerly of Papanui road), who has been spending a month in Christchurch, left on Saturday night to visit Mrs Miles. Wellington. Mrs Parker Westenra ("Rossmore.” Seddon) arrived in Christchurch yesterday for a short visit. Her mother, Mrs Charles Murray,, of Wharanui, is also a visitor to Christchurch. Mr and Mrs R. M. Morten (“Ahuriri," Tai Tapu) will take up residence early in the New Year at their new home, formerly the Holmes homestead, on Riccarton road. Mrs Alan Latter (Hartley avenue), who has been visiting Queen Charlotte Sound, has returned to Christchurch. Mrs R R. Laidlaw (Oaro). and Mrs J, McL. Reid (Kaikoura) have returned from a holiday spent at Queen Charlotte Sound. Mrs J. Mowbray Tripp (Geraldine), who has been visiting Christchurch, returned home yesterday. Mr and Mrs T. S. Davies ("Ngaio Downs." Kaikoura) have returned from a holiday at Queen Charlotte Sound. Mr J. R. Hanan. Mayoress of Invercargill, is visiting Christchurch. Miss Ida Carey. Hamilton, has been elected vice-president of the New Zealand Society of Artists. This honour has also been conferred on Mr R. 0. Gross, C.M.G.. of Auckland. Mr Sydney Thompson, 0.8. E. (Christchurch), is president of the society, with which all the art societies in New Zealand are affiliated. Again Ethne Tosswill has another suggestion for Christmas. Look and see her display of Christmas Cake Cards at Hereford Court after 2 p.m. A seasonable message and an excellent cake. Mrs H. Y. Widdowson (Sumner), who has been the guest of Mrs F. D. Morrow, “Montalto” Homestead. Mayfield, has returned home. Mr and Mrs Frank Rayward arrived back in New Zealand last week after an absence of three years in Great Britain. Mrs Rayward is visiting her sister, Mrs L. Allan, of Waimate. Mrs M. C. Johnston (Christchurch) is the guest of Mrs T. Pierard, Dunedin. The members of the Women's Auxiliary of the New Brighton Returned Soldiers’ Association were the guests of Mrs Harris at an evening social held at her home at New Brighton. Mrs A. E. Nesbitt was presented with a gift in appreciation of her work as secretary of the auxiliary. Miss E. Tennent (Wellington), Director of Red Cross Voluntary Aids, will leave for Wellington to-night after a short visit to Christchurch. Air Force Relations wish to advise knitters that they have now on hand a good quantity of wool for scarves and pullovers, and they would be pleased if knitters would call at headquarters, McKenzie’s buildings, corner of High and Lichfield streets, for supplies. Mrs G. S. Hodson, who is in charge, says she can supply wool to women who wish to knit for airmen during the holidays. The ladv editor of ‘‘The Press” gratefully acknowledges the following gifts for men on minesweepers: Two pairs of hand-knitted grey socks from “A New Zealander,” a donation of £1 from Mrs J. H, Hall.
