HIGH QUALITY WOOL
Appraisement Next Week OFFERING ABOUT 17,000 BALES The third, and so far most important, wool appraisement of the new season will be held in Christchurch on Tuesday, when about 17,000 bales will be placed before the valuers. An appraisement was held early last month, when a small catalogue was presented, and the first of the season was the August crutching sale, which was included in this season’s fixtures. The offering for next week contains a large proportion of hogget wool, and in this respect corresponds fairly closely to a normal first sale. A few early-shorn ewe clips will also be offered, but the main bulk of the ewe wool will not be ready for valuing until later. The quality of the wool to be offered is reported to be well above the average of recent years, a reflection of the exceptionally favourable growing season. Some of the latest shorn is showing some sign of yolk stain after the recent wet spell, but in genera! it is well grown and sound. Growers this season have been urged by the Government, and by the wool brokers, to pay the closest attention to the skirting and preparation 'of their wool. So serious has this point been considered that the Government has announced that valuers may throw down in grade wool improperly attended to by the grower. However, in spite of many appeals, most stores report that there has been little, if any, improvement in this respect.
