Reminder Nominations for the Waiau Racing Club’s annual race meeting on December Id will close at 9 p.m. to-day. At Ashburton To-day The principal event at Ashburton to-day, the Tinwald Handicap, has attracted seven acceptors only, but Dictate is not likely to be produced. There is no doubt that Wardress will now be a good favourite, but nevertheless each of her opponents is entitled to strong consideration. Wardress had some hard racing in the last month, but has been given every chance to freshen up. Sovereign Lady has been disappointing this term, and there i§ a possibility that she, has seen her best day. Trench Fight attracted attention by his bold showing while he lasted in the Metropolitan Handicap, and as he has not since shown any ill-effects of his recent racing, and has been working very well, he may create a surprise. A win far his owner, who is one of the personnel of an inter-island steamer, would be popularly received. Roy Bun is in at a handy weight, and he has a Geraldine Cup, over the same distance. to his credit. Mungatoon has not been in the money for a long time, while Knight Commander will have to improve on recent efforts to have a chance. Schoolgirl’s Chance The Ashburton Club has been unfortunate in getting five horses only for the Wakanui Handicap, but it is difficult. nevertheless, to suggest the ultimate favourite. Schoolgirl’s form to date has been very impressive, and she no doubt will be in keen demand. Silver StAiak is an interesting candidate. He won over eight fdrlongs and a half at Gore last month, carrying the same weight as he has 10-ciny. Skyrena 7-7 has been gradually improving, and is capable of being in the picture throughout. Symbol is actually the form contestant, and is the one likely to keep Schoolgirl busy over the final stages. Great Flight proved herself earlier to be useful, but has often disappointed. On Home Course

Rangetnore. engaged in the Apprentices’ Hack Handicap at Ashburton today, is a six-year-old gelding by Nightmarch from tjie Paper Money mare Note, dam of Monipere, and is trained at Ashburton by J. J. Lewis for Mrs M. J. Lockhead. "This combination also has Star Wink in the Lagmhor Plate. No Credentials The Hastings-owned and trained Arabic will contest the High-weight Hack Handicap at Ashburton to-day. Last August he ran second to Prudent Prince over nine furlongs at Riccarton, but has been unplaced in his subsequent nine starts. Arabic raced at the New Zealand Cup meeting, and has been trained by his owner at Riccarton since. Stud Notes Recent foalings and matings at the Windsor Park stud, Oamaru, include the following:—Merry Miss by Son-in-Law from Merry Lassie, filly by Phaleron Bay, this season mated with Defaulter; First Cast, by Salmond Trout from Joyous, colt by Bulandshar, mated with Siegfried; Falcon, by Flamingo, from Lammermuir, colt by Defoe, mated with Phaleron Bay; Doretta by Foxlaw from Dora, filly by Defoe, mated with Phaleron Bay; Gobble, by Tea Tray from Fulsome, filly by Siegfried, mated with same horse; and Homedale, by Rossendale from Hasten Home, filly by Siegfried, mated with Defaulter. Potential Slayer Blue Border is now Ineligible for the maiden events at Feilding, and he was not entered for any other races. On the way he scored at Levin he should get a distance; in fact, he impresses as much more likely to win over a journey than at sprinting. Blue Border is a three-year-old by Myosotis from Pecunia, by Ethiopian from Paper .Money, by Bobadil from Sufficiency, by Pilgrim’s Pr gress. This is Australian blood of very stout staying lines. Blue Border is a second foal and the first living one of his dam; A Profitable Deal Defy, by Defoe from Rangitere, who won her two races at Levin with brilliant final runs on a course that is not suited to such efforts, is now carrying the colours of Mr J. A. Betts, of Masterton, who secured her a few months ago from Mr I. Macßae (breeder of Defaulter) as a mare not expected to stand up to training. Mr Betts also raced her half-brother. Sky Limit, and the steeplechaser, Primak. Defy was in training for over a year at Trentham, but was produced only three times, so that her record is now threfe wins and a third in seven starts to date.

Harold Jinks, engaged in the Melrose Handicap at Ashburton to-day. is a three-year-old gelding by Quite Sure from Betty Jinks, who was by Peter Moko (an imported stallion by Peter the Great), from Lady Jinks. A successful brood mare by Black Ribbon (by Ribbonwood) from Fanny M. Lady Jinks possibly did not have a great deal of breeding behind her, but in Author Jinks. 4min 22 l-ssec, John Jinks, 2min Bsec and 3min 16 l-ssec, and Lady Cello, 3min 25 2-ssec, she established a reputation as a brood mare that is not held by many. Author Jinks was a fine little horse and won many good races, while his threequarter brother, John Jinks,, won the New Zealand Sapling Stake's in 1929. He was trained by D. Teahen, who has now in his care the crack three-year-old trotter. Certissimus. Author Jinks won the Timaru Cup in 1929 in 4min 24 2-ssec, time that was not beaten until last season when Dusky Sound recorded 4min 23sec. Attendances at Forbury Park There has been quite a lot of discussion during the last two or three days as to whether the attendance at Forbury Park on Monday was larger than on the second day of the winter meeting of 1926—the day the Exhibition closed, says the Dunedin ’7§tar.” In those days no charge for admission was made for women, yet the gate receipts for the two days of the 1926 meeting amounted to £2272 odd, as compared with £1605 for the two days this year, and on the Saturday of 1926 £44,675 was handled bv the totalisator, as compared with £37.983 on Monday last.
