TROTTING AT ADDINGTON

To-day’s Programme The New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club will advance its spring meeting a further stage at Addington to-day, and though acceptance time yesterday found a big number of withdrawals from the different events there is all the material lor exciting racing. The hard tracks of the last few weeks and the severe racing on Tuesday have had a good deal to do with the reduction in the size of the fields Which, however, are big enough for the best class racing. The field for the New Zealand Derby Stakes will number six, and it represents the best eligible for the race. It is unfortunate for the club that two of the recognised best three-year-olds, Special Force and Ronald Logan, were not nominated for the Derby, but special interest will centre in the appearance of the Auckland three-year-old Peter’s Find, who won the Challenge Stakes at New Brighton after a splendid contest. Walter Moore and Shadow Maid were the'winners of the two divisions in the Timaru Nursery Stakes, while Gold Chief was second to Walter Moore, and on Tuesday he showed himself to be in good form by running second to Ronald Logan in the Riccarton Stakes. Surprise Potts was beaten by only a head in the New Brighton Challenge Stakes, and though his Riccarton Stakes running was not encouraging he may improve sufficiently to get some of the stake money this season. Diamond Jim is a solid nacer, and will be bracketed with Walter Moore._

Stakes running was not encouragi to get some of the stake money i solid pacer, and will be bracketet

The opening event this lime is the Whiteleigh Handicap run over two miles and the first day’s winner, Parrish Guide, for his win over a mile and five furlongs, has gone from 24 to 60 yards behind. Possibly the extra journey will not trouble him; but Biworthy on his first day's running seems likely to do better over the longer journey, although he has gone back 24 yards. Premier and Sagamore are fresh horses that may add interest to the race. A field of 16 horses in the Ellesmere Handicap of a mile and a quarter will not make mailers any easier for the back-marker, Willowbank, on 26 yards, and while both Rowi and Ned Worthy are good racehorses they may have some difficulty in getting through the field. The limit and 12 yards mark horses will have the advantage and possibly Superior Rank will be the public’s choice. Great Blaze, too, has speed, and Wainoni Girl is solid. Like Superior Rank she will be making her first appearance at the meeting. Only eight horses are engaged in the Lelicvre Handicap, and with a 24 yards limit the field will be well together throughout. Navy Blue was a winner on the opening day over a mile and a quarter and there is nothing to say that she will not run out a solid two miles. Bill B. has not shown winning form for some time while Accountant's lust win was at New Brighton last month. Wee Potts is a fine mare at her best, and Peter Smith is a true stayer. He nyy be the favourite. Harold Guy seldom runs a bad race, while Cruiser is a good slayer, and there was some merit in Ringtrue’s third iu the Victoria Handicap on Tuesday. The Ollivicr Handicap. 4mm 29sec class is the big handicap event of the day. ’ and the field includes Dusky Sound. Bayard, Renown’s Best,- and Horse Power, who were starters in the New Zealand Cup. When Great Divide ran second to Nelson Eddy on Tuesday he recorded 4min 20 4-ssec, from a 4min 29sec mark and has been penalised 12 yards. Horse Power, giving awav 24 yards in the Cup is now on his right mark. 4min 28sec, and is nicely placed, while Nelson Eddy on Tuesday won decisively. It should be a great race with Dusky Sound one of the favourites. . Millisle was badly interfered with in the Dominion Handicap on Tuesday when lie was going particularly well mid ho may do bolter in the Sockburn Handicap of a mile and a half. Tan John and Captain Bolt, however, are still in the race, and must again make a bold showing, while Jenny Guy, a slow beginner, would probably be suited by a longer journey Fresh horses engaged in the Metropolitan Handicap, of a mile and five furlongs, include Three Tens and Adversity and the former gave a taste of his quality at Hutt Park recently. Zmcali put up a fine performance m running second to Ned Worthy in _ the Victoria Handicap, in 4min 22 1-nsec. but Ned Worthy now meets him on only 12 yards worse terms. Kilrea has shown improved form of late and is a distinct possibility. . Class sprinters are engaged m the Clarkson Handicap, of one mile and a quarter, and the field, while small is very select. Pot Luck. Fine Art, Plutus, and Great Jewel failed in the New Zealand Cup. but over the shorter journey they mav show their correct form and in a true run race very fast time should be recorded. Windsor Lass and Marsceres will be making their first appearance at the meeting, but they will have to be at the top of their form to be successful.
