CIVIL SERVICE WAGES
-—♦ NO DECISION YET MADE REPORT REFERRED TO PRIME MINISTER (From Our Parliamentary Reporter.] WELLINGTON. August 28. "No decision has been-made," replied the Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Fraser), when he was asked to-night to comment on a report that the Government had decided to grant wages and salary increases to all civil servants earning at present less than £335 a year. "The matter is still under consideration by the Government, and an announcement will be made as soon as possible," said the Prime Minister. The latest report in Government department circles is that, although an increase was to be made -in salaries less than £335 a year, the increase would not amount to 5 per cent. Other reports of the Governments action anticipate the grading of any increase in wages and salary, while it has also been suggested that, instead of giving a rise in salary, the Government may adopt the practice of the last war of granting annual bonuses on a varying scale.
