A PHENOMENON
TO THE EDITOB OP THE PRESS. Sir, —I was interested to read your correspondent, “Greendale’s” account of the strange object appearing in the sky—l presume on August 19, somewhere about 3 p.m. On that date I also saw the phenomenon within a stone’s throw of where I was standing. It appeared almost in front of the Baptist Church, Colombo street south, about as high as the building from the ground. It was a magnificent sight, suggesting a curious electrical discharge flashing for a brief period in the sunlight. I carefully noted if any aeroplanes were overhead, thinking it may have issued from one, but I was obliged to rule that possibility out as all was serene above. , , „ . I wish to thank “Greendale for bringing forward this matter. It has rather puzzled me also. Your correspondent does not state the time the object was.Visible. However, one feels
glad to learn it was not a delusion which startled the normal senses, and one naturally seeks the why and wherefore of such an unusual sight— Yours, etc., , (MRS) A. WILLIAMS. August 27, 1940.
