WEATHER REPORT

OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, August 25. The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Freshening northerly to northwesterly v intis, possibly reaching gale force in some exposed positions. Weather fair to fine and mild. Seas slight to moderate. WEST COAST. The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Gradually freshening north-west-erly winds; weather cloudy to overcast, with rain developing, and temperatures moderate. Seas moderate, but rising. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— For the most part fair to fine, but with increasing cloud and rain developing in the western and far southern areas of the South Island. Some light frosts in the south tonight, but temperatures becoming ■ rather milder. An anti-cyclone extends from the North Tasman Sea over the North Island to beyond the Chatham Islands. A weak disturbance is crossing the South Island, and a deep depression is moving on to Tasmania from the west. Winds—Light and variable at first in the far north, but otherwise gradually freshening northerlics to northwesterlies, later reaching gale force in exposed positions about and south of Cook Strait. Seas (New Zealand waters)- —Rough about Cook and Fovcaux Straits and south of Westport. Elsewhere slight or moderate, but rising south of Cape Egmont. Eastern Tasman Sea —Light and variable winds at first in the northern portion, with slight seas; otherwise freshening north-westerly winds rising to gale force in the southern portion, with very rough sqas.

CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER

The week-end in Christchurch was brilliantly fine. On Saturday the sunshine was tempered by a cold and fairly strong easterly breeze. Yesterday was rather warmer, and the wind, still easterly, not so strong.

At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was clear, with a light easterly wind. The temperature was 46 degrees, and the barometer reading 30.1 inches (1019.3 millibars) .
