WOMEN’S LAND ARMY DEMONSTRATION AT LINWOOD On Saturday, members of the Business and Professional Women's Land Army met at the home of Mr and Mrs G. Milne (Linwood avenue) for a talk and demonstration on practical gardening given by Mr Milne, who last year won first prize in the best vegetable garden competition. Moving from plot to plot, members were shown how soil was prepared for the various vegetables, and the best way of utilising space and making the garden look attractive. In the seed shed they were shown seed from vege tables grown the previous year, and were presented with specimens, to ir> in their own garden plots. Mr Milne suggested that each group should get a set of tools instead of buying haphazardly. Miss Mary McLean announced that the Army had been given one woman’s gardening fork by Mr Chamberlain, and that Miss Agnes Richardson had offered a cup for a garden competition.

Miss Richardson, Mrs lan Norrie. and Mrs N. E. Cameron Smith were appointed leaders of groups formed in readiness for work which will commence next month. It is hoped to form at least 10 groups with 10 members in each. At the conclusion of the demonstration. about 50 members were the guests of Mr and Mrs Milne at afternoon tea.
