OBITUARY
MR J. E. RAMSEY [THE PIfESS Special Service] WELLINGTON, August 24. The death occurred at his home, “Matafele,” Seatoun, on Thursday, of a prominent citizen of Wellington, Mr John Edmund Ramsey. For many years he was a director of W. D. and H. O. Wills, Ltd., and in recent years a director of J. R. McKenzie. Ltd., Bryant and May, Ltd., Frozen Products, Ltd., and Fountain Court, Ltd Born at Auckland 59 years ago. Mr Ramsey was educated at Auckland Grammar Echoed, and for the last 40 years had been a member of the firm of W. D. aad H. O. Wills, Ltd., and its predecessors; until his retirement in 1938 he had for 20 years been a director. Mr Ramsey came to Wellington about 24 years ago, and had many interests here. He was a member of the Rotary Club, of Lodge Aorangi, chairman of the board of trustees of St. George’s Church, Seatoun, a member of the council of the Acclimatisation Society, and a pastpresident and member of the Seatoun Returned Soldiers’ Association. He was one of the fast-diminishing band of South African War veterans. Mr Ramsey was a keen fisherman and yachtsman. He is survived by his wife and three daughters.
