RAILWAY TRAMPING EXCURSION
After a suspension of two months because of the coal restrictions railway tramping excursions were resumed yesterday. when some 1200 persons were conveyed by two large trains to the Waikari district. The trampers left the trains at a point near the Weka Pass, and went along the main road for about a mile, and then turned in towards the foothills for about two miles to Mr Les Ferguson’s homestead, where they stopped for lunch. The route then led through the low hills and the properties of Messrs Carr and White back to Waikari, where a stop was made for afternoon tea. The excursion was one of the most successful yet held by the department. The next excursion will be on September 22.
