POISON GRAIN IN DEMAND

♦ DESTRUCTION OF SMALL ' BIRDS There has been an unprecedented demand for poison grain prepared by the Ashburton County Council during recent months, for the destruction of small birds, and it has not been possible to prepare the grain quickly enough to cope with the .demand. The mixing of phosphorus with the grain has been delayed because of the excessive humidity in the air delaying the drying process. In addition, there has been a shortage of tins, but the demand has been supplied with the use of second-hand containers. The council has received inquiries for supplies of poison grain from other local bodies. The local demand has been met first.
