MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING

NORTH CANTERBURY WINTER TOURNAMENT The eighth and final round of matches in the North Canterbury Miniature Rifle Association’s winter tournament was fired during the last fortnight. The standard of scoring was again good, and 11 competitors scored possibles. The shortage of ammunition has been a- factor in compelling several clubs to hold their shooting nights fortnightly instead of weekly, but the pooling of ammunition from clubs holding more than sufficient for this season has enabled all clubs to carry on and complete the tournament matches. The teams competitions are decided by the aggregate scores of teams for the eight matches. The senior grade competion was won by the Scargill team, which established a lead in the first match and was never headed, with 3148 (possible 3200). VVaikarl team was runner-up with 3141, and Culverden third with 3140. Culverden teams won the. junior and president’s grade competitions comfortably, with the Scargill teams as runners-up in both these grades. The women’s teams competition was won by Kaikoura team. 3081, from Waikari, 3071. For the individual aggregate trophies there were close contests in all grades. In the senior grade H. Whittington (Scargill). who was leading after the seventh round, scored only 77 in the final match C. Burford (Hawarden) scored possibles in the last four matches, and the final result was a tie between Whittington and Burford for the challenge cup and trophy. In the junior grade. O.
