REPAIRS TO RAFT The raft at Corsair Bay, well known to thousands of swimmers who visit the bay in the summer months, was towed to No. 1 breastwork and lifted out of the water by one of the Harbour Board's electric cranes. Repairs and painting will be done, and the raft will be replaced at the bay in readiness for the swimming season. Fair for Ambulance Fund Organised by children of St. Joseph's Parish School and the Lyttelton Convent School, a fair held in the Parish Hall yesterday afternoon in aid of the school's ambulance fund was well patronised. Supporters gave generously, and the stalls did a brisk trade. It is expected that about £2O will be realised. Seal in Harbour A seal on the rocks beneath the steamer express wharf attracted much attention at Lyttelton yesterday morning. Afterwards the seal was seen swimming about the inner harbour until it finally disappeared through the moles. Soldiers Entertained Lyttelton members of the 3rd Echelon were entertained in the Club Hall last night. It was the largest function yet held for soldiers in Lyttelton. •Twenty soldiers and one nursing sister were the guests, and many soldiers not in the echelon also attended. The guests were:—Second-'Lieutenant A Torrens, Quartermaster-Sergeants D. Collins and L. P. Eosseter, Sergeants J. Hardwick and D. Day, Corporal G. Duff, Lance-Corporal E. Phillipson, Privates N. Sergison, C. Stirling, G. Ormsby, A. Illingworth, C. Gaunsen, W. Preston. R. Sutton. D. Cameron, L. Scott. W. Selandia, T. DeUow, G. Jones, T. Cornish, and Nursing Sister Lorna Preston. Presenting each guest with a gift parcel, the Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) spoke of the excellent physique of the men, which, he said, showed the benefits of military training. Mr T. H. McCombs. M.P., said Lyttelton was upholding the claim of having the largest number of enlistments in proportion to its population. Mr A. G. Sinclair spoke on behalf of the Lyttelton Returned Soldiers' Association. A song was given by Mrs A, Whitford.
