CENTENNIAL EXHIBITS

—*— INSTALLATION IN CITY PANELLING AND FIREPLACE FOR COUNCIL CHAMBERS Negotiations are proceeding satisfactorily for the taking over by the Christchurch City Council of some ofthe more important provincial exhibits from the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition. Mr, Paul Pascoe, advisory, architect to the exhibition, is preparing a report for the council on the adaptation of the panelling, fireplace, and murals for the City Council Chambers It was intended that these, which were among the most striking features of the Canterbury Court, should go into the No. 1 committee room of the council. but as this room has more broken wall areas than some of the others, it is likely that a recommendation will be made for their use in the No 3 committee room. Actually, much of the council’s most important work is carried out in this room. The big relief model of Canterbury, weighing some 20 tons, will be sent to Christchurch with the Industries and Commerce Department’s exhibits for the Winter Show. The model will later be taken over by the Canterbury Museum.
