The Prime Minister (the Rt. Hon. P. Eraser) has advised the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce that he will be pleased to accept the invitation of the chamber to attend its annual meeting, in the city in October. Mr justice Tyndall, Mr W. Cecil Prime, and Mr A. L. Monteith, of the Arbitration Court, arrived in Christchurch by the steamer express yesterday morning, The Deputy-Mayor (Mr J. S. Barnett) returned to Christchurch from Wellington yesterday morning. The Hon. J. A. Hanatt, M.L.C., arrived in Christchurch by the steamer express yesterday morning. Captain R. F. Johnston relinquishes his appointment as Assistant-Director pf Dental Services, northern military district, and is transferred to the reserve of officers, according to the Gazette. Captain L. P. Davies relinquishes a corresponding appointment in the central military district, and is also transferred to the reserve of officers. Colonel J. H. Whyte is attached, temporarily, to the general staff branch, Army Headquarters. Lieutenant-Colonel E. F. Selby, the Southland Regiment, relinquishes command of the Ist Battalion, and is transferred to the reserve of officers.—Press Association. Mr G. F. Griffiths, headmaster of the Middle School, Invercargill, is at present attending a sitting of the Teachers’ Appeal Board in Christchurch. • A resolution of sympathy with Mr W. R. Carey in the death of his son, Pilot Officer G. W. F. Carey, D.F.C., on active service, was carried at a meeting of the council of the Canterbury Chamber of Commerce last evening. .. ' Dr. R.
