“Drums Along the Mohawk" At Mayfair
“Drums Along the Mohawk.” filmed in technicolour by Bert Glennon, the cameraman of “Stagecoach,” under the direction of John Ford, the 20th Cen-
tury-Fox picture presents a new record in action, one that will be long remembered by all who see it. The film opens at the Mayfair to-day. Starred in the film are Claudette Colbert and Henry Fonda, as a pair of young pioneers who settle in the Mohawk Valley, and soon find themselves under the onslaught of the savage Iroquois In the days when torch and tomahawk spread their terror. these two braved the wilderness together. The film is based on the best-seller by Walter D. Edmonds, renowned author. whose Mohawk Valley background is, matched only by Henry Fonda, who himself was born and raised in the valley, and bears one of its best-known names.
Featured in the cast are jEdna May Oliver, Eddie Collins, John Carradinc, Dorris Bowdon, Jessie Ralph, Arthur Shields. Robert Lowery, and Roger Imhof, The screen play was written by Lamar Trotli and Sonya Levien.
More than 300 studio workers and actors were transported to a valley in Utah for the making of the film. There a little town was built, complete with
shops and even a local newspaper, which lasted for just a month.
Robert Preston announced his engagement to Kay Setters, a young actress, whose first film is “Married in Transit.”
Henry Hull, who went to Hollywood as “Broadway's greatest actor.” but has been given very few chances to prove it,- announces his retirement from films.
