♦ OFFICIAL FORECASTS [THE PRESS Special Service.] WELLINGTON, July 31. ‘ The weather forecast for Canterbury, issued at 5 p.m. by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, and dealing with the 24 hours following the time of issue, is as follows: Light to moderate and variable winds. Weather fair to fine, with moderate temperatures. Seas slight. WEST COAST The forecast for the West Coast of the South Island is:— Light to moderate and variable winds, chiefly from a westerly quarter. Scattered showers, but weather otherwise fair. Moderate temperatures. Moderate «cas. DOMINION The Dominion forecast is:— Weather mainly fair, with moderate temperatures; rather changeable, however, in western districts of the South Island, and in the far north and far south, with some scattered rain probable. The situation is developing into one of the westerly type, with a belt of high pressure extending from New South Wales to beyond the North Island. A weak depression is passing to the south. Winds—Easterly in the Auckland peninsula, otherwise from a westerly quarter, force mainly light or moderate, but strong at times in some exposed positions from Cook Strait southwards. Seas (New Zealand waters)— Rather rough to rough at times in Cook and Foveaux Straits, and on parts of the west coast of the South Island; slight to moderate elsewhere. Eastern Tasman Sea—Fresh westerly winds in the south, with rather rough seas; otherwise light to moderate variable winds, and moderate seas. CHRISTCHURCH WEATHER The weather was tine and for the most part sunny yesterday. The maximum temperature was 64 degrees. There was a light north-east breeze in the morning, and the afternoon was calm. At 1 o’clock this morning the sky was overcast and a light easterly breeze was blowing. The barometer was steady at 30.33 inches (1027.1 millibars). The temperature was 49 degrees.
