The Minister for Health (the Hon. H. T. Armstrong) was engaged on departmental business in Christchurch yesterday, and left for the north by the steamer express. The Mayor of Christchurch (Mr ,R. M. Macfarlane, M.P.) was a passenger for Wellington by the steamer express last evening. Mr R. B. Tennent, Director of the Fields Division of the Department of Agriculture, arrived from Wellington by the Wahine yesterday. Dr Murray A. Stewart, who has been doing post-graduate study in England for the last 12 months, has gained his diploma m medical radiology (D.M.R.E.). Dr. Stewart is a son of Mr William Stewart, of Invercargill. . He is a former pupil of the Southland Boys' High School and also of the Timaru Boys’ High School. After obtaining his degree at the University of Otago, Dr. Stewart was a. house surgeon at the Masterton and Waikato Hospitals. A tribute to the work of Sir Walter Stringer as the chairman of the War Pensions Appeal Board for the last 13 years, was paid in the House of Representatives yesterday by the Minister for Defence (the Hon; F. Jpnes), He also expressed confidence in the ability of Sir Francis Frazer, who has been appointed to fill the position from which Sir Walter has resigned. The Minister said that-he would like to express his own appreciation of Sir Walter’s work, and he felt, that'he was also expressing the appreciation of the people of New Zealand. He believed that Sir Walter’s decisions had .been generally acceptable to the people concerned, and he considered that a debt of gratitude was owed to him for his splendid work. “1 do not think we could have done better than to get Sir Francis Frazer to succeed Sir Walter,’’ the Minister said.—Parliamentary Reporter.
