CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNEY AT GREYMOUTH J. w. JACKSON WINS WEST COAST TITLE [From Our Own Reporter.] GREYMOUTH, July 29. The weather was fine and sunny for the annual West Coast golf championships on the Greymouth course at Kaiata. Competitors from Canterbury, Buller, Hokitika, Reefton, and Greymouth took part. The tournament was most successful from every viewpoint and a fine standard of play was evident throughout. The course was in perfect order. The men’s senior title was won by J. W. Jackson (Shirley), who played a steady game to beat the foftner title-holder, P. Warnes (Hokitika), 6 and 5 in the final, file women’s title went to Mrs W. G. McKay (Greymouth), who beat another Greymouth player, Mrs J. W. Hannan, 1 up after a' keen tussle. E. Warnes (Greymouth) beat C. McKechnie (Greymouth) in the final of the Veterans’ Cup, 4 and 3. The Ladies Plate was won by Mrs R. Yellowlees (Reefton) and the Kaiata Plate by R. Hay-McKenzie. The men's flight matches were won by the following:— First, A. J. Dean (Mornington); second, H. R, Rendall (Harewood); third, Dr. H. S. Ray (Greymouth): fourth, A. McVicar (Reefton): fifth, H. W. Brown (Greymouth): sixth, W. Steer (Greymouth). A Stableford bogey match was won by J. Jones (Westport), and a four-ball bogey by G. Walters (Greymouth) and A. Woodward tWestport). A mixed foursome was won by Adamson (Hokitika) and Miss F. Hay-McKenzie (Westport). Other women’s events resulted: —Bogey match. Mrs J. Robertson; second medal match. Mrs A. Thompson (Hokitika); second bogey match, Miss F. Hay-McKenzie. During the first day’s play the men’s medal matches were won by T. Houlahan 71 and S. R. Wallace 70. The best aggregate gross score in the qualifying rounds was that of J. W. Jackson (Shirley) with two rounds of 75. A bogey match was won by T. Houlahan (Ross), 1 up. Westport won the Dalgliesh Shield, Greymouth being second and Hokitika third. In the women’s qualifying rounds the best gross score was that of Mrs H. Hooper 80. The best net score was by Mrs F. G. Olivers, 93. 21—72. The women’s challenge shield was won by Greymouth A with g score of 370. The women’s bogey match on the opening day was won by Mrs Robertson. In a flag foursome, the winners were Mrs P. G. Tizard and Miss J. Hambleton, who took the flag to the eighteenth green. RICHMOND HILL CLUB The committee’s prize for the four best [net rounds resulted:—W. B. Owen 285, I.
K. Wood 291, H. D. Graham 292, R. C. Hamilton 294. A stroke match resulted:—Senior: W. B. Owen, 84, 16—68; 1. K. Wood, 84, 11— 73; H. L. Whiteman, 85, 12—73. Junior; M. Marriner, 87, 21—66; V. F. Sherman, 87, 20—67; H. Howard, 93, 24—69. AKAROA CLUB L. Narbey won a Stableford bogey match for men on Sunday, and Mrs R. Narbey the women’s match.
