♦- The Minister for Health and Housing (the Hon. H.' T. Armstrong) returned to Christchurch from Greymouth last evening and will leave to-night for Wellington. The Minister is accompanied by his private secretary (Mr J. T. Waugh)., The Minister for National Security and for Public Works (the Hon. R. Semple) visited Little River yesterday to inspect flood protection schemes. The Minister was accompanied by Mr H. S. S. Kyle, M.P., member for the district. In the city he was engaged on departmental business and he left for Wellington by the steamer express last evening. Mr A. E. Flower was re-elected chairman of the Canterbury University College Council at its meeting yesterday. Mr J. G. Poison was reelected deputy-chairman. Mr J. Sawers, Assistant-General Manager of Railways, visited Christchurch on departmental business yesterday and left for the north last evening. The award Of the Ensom prize for 1940 to Mr D. W. Oxniari was approved by the Canterbury University (College Council at its meeting yesterday. The prize is awarded annually for the best essay promoting the cause of international peace. Mr F. K. McKay, Railways Road Service Superintendent, arrived from the West Coast on Saturday and left for Dunedin yesterday morning. The' resignation from the staff of the_ Christchurch West High School of Mr W. Mitchell was accepted with regret by the Canterbury University College Council at its meeting yesterday. Mr Mitchell has been appointed to a position at the Seddon Memorial Technical College, Auckland.
