AIR FORCE QUEEN CARNIVAL

* PROGRESS RESULTS First progress results of the Air Force queen carnival being conducted among city firms showed last night that the four persons leading the voting so far are;— Miss Joan Clements (Woolworths, Ltd.), Miss Rhoda McEvoy .(Pattison, Ede Co.. Ltd.), Miss Molly O’Callaghan (Simpson and Williams), and Miss Norma Murray (Lane, Walker, and Rudkin, Ltd.). Few votes separated the other eight candidates, and no details were available from one or two of the firms. The carnival, sponsored by Wing Commander G. S. Hodson, Officer Commanding the Royal New Zealand

Air Force station at Wigram, is being supported by city firms in aid of funds for comforts for airmen. The success of candidates depends on the activities of various staffs. No direct appeal is being made to the public, and there will be no street collection. The carnival will officially end on August 8, the crowning ceremony (and the final announcement of the winner)to take place at a community sing session at the Civic Theatre on Friday, August 16, at which the Mayor (Mr H. M. Macfarlane. M.P.) will preside. Wing Commander Hodson will officially crown the winner "Queen of the Air Force.”
