DISCUSSION OF SOIL SURVEY

* MEETING OF PENINSULA FARMERS TO-DAY More than 500 notices about the meeting to be held at Duvauchelle Bay this morning to discuss Banks Peninsula soil, and pasture problems have been sent to peninsula farmers by the Canterbury Progress League. According to the acting-secretary of the league (Mr C. H. Clibborn), Mr F. Coop (representing the league’s agricultural committee) will probably preside. The principal speakers will be Mr F. R. Callaghan (chief executive officer of the Plant Research Bureau), on the origin and execution of the soil survey which has been undertaken; Dr. L. I. Grange (director of the soil survey division of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research), on peninsula soil types; and Mr E. A. Madden (of the grasslands division), on pasture types. Among others present will be Dr. 1. W. Weston (Canterbury Agricultural College), and Messrs R. G. Bowman and K. B. Cumberland (Canterbury University College).
