MAGISTRATE’S COURT At the Magistrate’s Court on Saturday, before Mr W. D. Gower, J.P., Hendy Edward Thomas Wakelin was charged with being a rogue and vagabond in that he did attempt to impose on St. Martin’s House of Help for the purpose of endeavouring to obtain money. On the application of the police he was remanded to appear at Christchurch to-day. Fashion Parade To assist the funds of the Lyttelton branch of the Plunket Society, a fashion parade, arranged by Mrs T. Firman, of the staff of Hay’s, Ltd., was held in the Kilwinning Lodge on Saturday afternoon. The parade was a novelty for Lyttelton, and there was a large'attendance of spectators. As a contrast to modern fashions, a display was made by members of the Burwood Women’s Institute of gowns and costumes of other days. Afternoon tea was served and musical items were given by Miss May Stearne and Miss Doris Sutherland. Carnival Dance On Saturday night the Lyttelton branch of the New Zealand Labour Party held a carnival dance in the Excelsior Hall, There was a large attendance, those present including the Mayor (Mr F. E. Sutton) and Mr T. H. McCombs, M.P. Nolan’s orchestra provided dance music, and Mr G. Ticehurst was master of ceremonies. An exhibition* of tap dancing was given by Master R. Franklin. Novelty dances were won by Misses N--. Rennie, B. Saloman, B. Marshall, S. Huckle, Messrs C. Wright, J. Hardwick, Johnston, and Burke.
