“WIN THE WAR” RALLY
—— * PLANS FOR IMPRESSIVE CEREMONY A “win the war” dedication rally has been organised by the Christchurch branch of the New Zealand Returned Soldiers’ Association, and will be held at Lancaster Park on Sunday afternoon. “This rally has been arranged to give the people of Canterbury an opportunity of showing their loyalty to the Empire and of dedicating themselves to the Empire’s cause in her hour of need,” said the president of the association (Mr D. W.-Russell) in commenting on the arrangements. “This is not a recruiting appeal, but an Opportunity for people to help to maintain morale and to gain courage and Strength for the greatest conflict the Empire has encountered since Napoleon’s second invasion. “Massed brass bands, stirring marches by pipers, the largest combined choir that Christchurch has ever heard, together tVith k prominent soloists. Will lead community singihg of hymns and national songs,” said Mr Russell. ‘‘Spectacular flag displays, stirring speeches, a march past of V.A.D.’S, and naval, military, and Air Force units, including the reserve battalion of boy scouts, will conclude a memorable ceremony. “The gates will Open at 1 p.m., and there will be an excellent loudspeaker Service SO that everyone., can hear,” concluded Mr RUssell. "Citizens are urged to support this mass gathering, and would be well advised to arrive early so as to avoid congestion at the gates.”
