Appreciation of the work of Mr Matthew J. Casey (retiring president) and his executive was recorded by the New Zealand Bowling Association yesterday. Besides the ordinary management it was mentioned that the outstanding success of the centennial tournament was a tribute to their efforts. Mr L. B. Evans, of the Kaiapoi Bowling Club, took office as president of the New Zealand Bowling Association at the Dominion conference in Christchurch yesterday. Reference was made to his work for the sport, for which he was awarded “the highest honour brother bowlers could confer—the presidency.” Mr C. V. Stanich has been appointed waterfront controller for the port of Auckland, according to the Gazette. Messrs W. J. Cutbert and J. F. Wilson have been appointed Wharf superintendents at Auckland. The appointment is gazetted of Professor E. R. Hudson as a member of the Council of Scientific Research. Italian interests in New Zealand have been assumed by Mr Toyokichi Fukuma, ConsulGeneral for Japan. Notification to this effect appears in the Gazette.—Press Association. Mr A. T. Roberts, who has enlisted for military service overseas and has been posted to an engineering unit, was presented with a wristlet watch recently by members of the Staff of BroWn Bros.; electrical engineers. While serving his apprenticeship with this firm Mr Roberts was successful in gaining the gold medal presented by the British Cable Makers’ Association for the'highest number of marks gained in the New Zealand Government wiremen’s registration examination. Mentioned in the annual report of the Wellington branch of the Crippled Children Society is the ease of a parent who applied to the society for financial aid to meet the cost Of a surgical boot for a crippled daughter. The welfare officer suggested that an Orthopaedic specialist should be consulted before the boot was ordered, and as a result of treatment, the child is no longer deformed and is able to wear a normal shoe.
