LINEN FLAX GROWING

TO THE EDITOR Of TBX PRESS. Sir, —I wish to point out that there was an error in your Saturday’s report of my appeal to the Mid-Canter-bury Executive of the Farmers’ Union in connexion with the growing of linen flax for the British Government. I stated that a ton of deseeded linen flax straw of processable quality and 30 inches in length would be paid for at the rate of £4 5s a ton and not £45, as stated in your report. I pointed out that the average crop would produce two tons of straw an acre, and that certain premiums would be paid for freedom from weeds and straw of superior quality, and in addition to the payment, for straw, ,£25 'a, ton would be paid for the seed from such crops.—Yours, etc., R. McGILLIVRAY. Fields Superintendent, Fields Division. June 2i. 1940.
