KEEP THE FLAG FLYING
TO THE EDITOB OB THE PEBBB. Sir—As a subscriber to your paper I should like to draw the attention of the Christchurch public to the display or non-display of the British flag in this city. On most of the business premises there are one or more flag* poles. Aren’t they British enough to fly the flag of the country, that they depend on for their very existence? Four out of six persons you talk to about the war have their tails down. They moan and say we’re gone, that we will never win; and after the bad news about the French quitting they .will be. worse than ever; But I- tell them they are mad,'we’ll win. We'xnust-win —-there is ho other way out..lt means life- or death to us. We want waking up here.-. I sometimes wonder whether a bomb' dropped in - the Souare would- make them realise there* was a war-on. , , I would like to see the Union .Jack flying on the poles every day,- and kept there for the duration. Also, every car-owner to fly a small flag ..on .his car. Why wait till we win gnd thgn put up miles of bunting and flags, as they did on Armistice Day? Now is the time.—Yours, etc., FLAGS UP. June 24, 1940. ■
