CENTENNIAL DRAMA FESTIVAL
♦ ONE-ACT PLAY CONTEST Twelve plays have been entered for the Christchurch Centennial one-act play competition, which will be held for three nights in the Radiant Hall this week, commencing on Thursday. The competition has been sponsored by the Government, not merely as a
commemorative event, but also as an effort to encourage the study and practice of drama, and thus contribute something to the stimulation of culture in New Zealand.' The competition has been enthusiastically taken up. by leading groups in the community drama movepient in Christchurch. The groups participating in the festival are the Canterbury Repertory Theatre Society (two plays); Workers’ Educational Association (two plays), Canterbury Training College (three plays), Zenith Players, Bankside Players, Miss Naare Hooper’s group, Old Westonians’ Dramatic Society, and Hay’s Drama Club. The Christchurch Drama Committee
has secured the services of Mr J. J. W. Pollard, of Christchurch, as judge, and he will have associated with him Mrs R. D. Neale, whose recent visit to England will ensure the widest knowledge of the production side of the presentation. Each evening four plays will be presented. As this is a. festival of community drama, the committee has decided to fix the charges of admission on the most reasonable scale. Is 6d for all seats.
