“BOOKS OF A RED NATURE”
ALLEGED DELIVERY IN NEW BRIGHTON "Books of a Red nature” were being distributed in the borough of New Brighton, said Cr. J. N. Clarke at a meeting of the Borough Council last evening. He said he took strong exception to the distribution of such literature. After a brief discussion the council decided to hand to the police a book which Cr. Clarke said was in his P0 »A S cCrt’ain person in the borough has been delivering books of a Red nature,” said Cr. Clarke. “This lady came and left a book for the Town Clerk, and also for other members of the council staff.” , . , The proper procedure was too hand the books to the police, said the Mayor (Mr E. L. Smith). If the police thought they were subversive they would take action. Cr. J. S. Ainsworth: What was the book about? , Cr. Clarke said he had not read it. However, he had it at home. Cr. T. E. Thomson said that the “People’s Voice” and another pamphlet with it were still being delivered in the borough. It was time something was done to stop it. At the Mayor’s suggestion Cr. Clarke moved, and the council agreed, - that the literature .be. handed to the police. Mr Smith remarked that he was very glad the matter had been mentioned.
