NATIONAL TRACK TITLES CANTERBURY CENTRE FAVOURS DISCONTINUANCE Discontinuance of the New Zealand open track and field amateur athletic championships was favoured by delegates at a meeting of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last evening. Cross-country delegates opposed the cancellation of this year’s New Zealand cross-country championships. which are to be held at Dun r edln in August, and this opinion will be forwarded to the New Zealand council In Wellington. A letter was received from the New Zealand Council asking whether the centre supported a notice of motion to discontinue the open national for the duration of the war. Whether the cross-country championships would be affected by the motion was debated during a long discussion. It was decided to support the motion in so far as it concerned the track and field championships and it was left to the cross-country com- I mittee to pass a resolution to be sent to the council setting out its views on the holding of the cross-country championshins. Mr D. W. Bain, who presided, said that the motion would not affect the junior and-women's championships. They would be held as usual. *
