The Minister ’ for Transport, the Hon. R. Semple, will be in Christchurch on Monday, and will meet all operators of public transport vehicles in the Christchurch area at a meeting that evening. Dr V. Armstrong, who has been in England for the last'three years, is visiting his parents in Christchurch. Dr. Armstrong arrived by the Niagara. Mr C. L. Ridgen was welcomed at a meeting of the executive of the Canterbury Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Athletic Association last evening as representative of the secondary schools. The appointment of Mr G. A. Lewin to be a director of the State Advances Corporation for a year from July 1 is gazetted. Major S. M. Satterthwaite,, N.Z.S.C., relinquishes his post as Commandant of the Southern Military District School of Instruction, Burnham, on being seconded for duty with the 2nd New Zealand Expeditionary Force, according to the Gazette. Captain R. J. Eyre, N.Z.S.C., succeeds him as commandant. Members of the Christchurch Presbytery bade farewell yesterday to the Rev. F. H. T. Paton, who has been transferred from the ShirleyRichmond charge to Papatoetoe. The Moderator (the Rev. A. C. Watson) presided, and tributes to Mr Paton’s work were paid by the Rev. D. M. Rogers, the Rev. J. D. C. Madill, and the Rev. G. L. Taylor, The Rt. Rev. Monsignor T. F. Connolly (Wellington), and the Rev. Fathers D. O Copnell (Alexandra). M. Scanlan (Lawrence). H. O’Neill (Mosgiel), C. Collins (Forbury), O. R. Marlow (Oamaru), were visitors to Christchurch yesterday to attend the silver jubilee celebrations of the Rev. Father T. Hanrahan, parish priest of Riccarton. Mr John Fisher, of Invercargill, was presented with a gold watch and chain in appreciation of his long service to the dairy industry at a smoke concert held at Timaru by the South Island Dairy Association. In making the presentation, Mr H. H. Meredith, chairman of directors, said that Mr Fisher had been actively engaged in the industry for 33 years, and was lareelv responsible for the establishment of a number oi co-operative dairy companies in Southland. ,
