METHODIST CHURCH

NORTH CANTERBURY EXECUTIVE The North Canterbury District Executive of the Methodist Church held its bi-monthly meeting recently, the Rev. W. A. Burley, chairman of the North Canterbury Synod, presiding. The. Rev. W. Parker reported on chaplaincy matters. All special collections for the chaplaincy fund had not been made, and the churches were urged to complete thi; appeal. ( Week-end-hospitality and hc.rr for convalescing soldiers had been provided by many Methodist homes as a result of the appeal made from pulpits. Speaking - on spiritual advance, the Rev. W. E. A. Carr gave reports of the successful . simultaneous mission that had been held by all the churches on the Wesf Coast. sponsored by Bishop Hilliard. He thought that in these days of national anxiety the time was ripe for a more widespread appeal to the people to turn to God in penitence and trust; The co-operation of the, churches should be sought for such an appeal in Canterbury. Mr P. A. le Brun supported this suggestion, reminding the meeting of the good response from the general public to the appeal by the King. From his observation, he could say that many people were turning in these anxious days to more serious thought of the spiritual values of life, and were waiting for a lead'from the churches.
