CHAIRMAN RETIRES
Canterbury Patriotic Fund
* After occupying the position of chairman of the Canterbury Patriotic Fund for 26 years, Mr H. Holland announced at the annual meeting of the fund yesterday that he did not seek reelection. Mr Holland was one of the founders of the fund and had been chairman since its inception. He was Mayor of Christchurch for seven years, including the whole of the war period, and it was at this time that he was most actively engaged in the affairs of the fund. Many tributes to the work Mr Holland had done for the fund were paid at the meeting yesterday. At the inception of the fund, it was stated, Mr Holland had spent much effort attending meetings in country districts all over the province. He had been a capable and courteous chairman ever since he had taken office.
Mr C. J. R. Williams, who had held the office of vice-chairman since the fund first came into being, was elected chairman, and Mr H. Kitson was elected vice-chairman.
