SOCIAL AND PERSONAL Mrs Raymond Appleby (“Oakhill,” Levels) has returned from a visit to her daughter, 2V£rs L. Kenyon (Bluecliffs). Mr and Mrs W. H. Diamond (Calcutta) are staying with Miss Edith Roberts. Mrs R. Raines (Christchurch) is staying with her mother, Mrs C. J. Le Cren. BLENHEIM NEWS " i Large bowls of bronze chrysanthemums and autumn leave decorated the rooms at “Valhalla” when Miss Margaret Moore entertained her friends at an enjoyable dance. Miss L. Moore wore a black crepe de chine frock and Miss Margaret Moore a floral organdi frock. Those present were Misses Jocelyn and Ann Chaytor, Janet and Ann Todhunter, Joan and Helen Acton-Adams, Yolande Macdonald, Kathryn Gill, Elizabeth Smythe, Joan and Mary Latter, Pamela Parsons, Mary Critchley, M. Cotter (Christchurch), Messrs E. W. Moore, John and Peter Moore, Edward, John, and Hugh Good, R. Clouston, Noel Richmond, J. Murray, Peter Nathan, D. Todhunter, R. Goldstone, John Patterson, D. Mef-erill, Douglas Balfour, John Robinson, Harry.Stace, John and Pat Reid, Peter Adams, and J. Parsons. THE WORLD FELLOWSHIP CIRCLE , The world fellowship circle of the Young Women’s Christian Association met at the club rooms, Madras street, Mrs Peter Wood presiding. In spite of the wintry weather, there was a good attendance of members and friends, who listened with deep attention to an interesting talk by Mrs L. G. Pocock on the present critical situation in Belgium and France. The principal points were the German onslaught on Hplland and Belgium, the advance into northern France, the gaps in the defences, the attitude of Italy to the war, her armies and air-bases, and the Mediterranean fleets of France, Italy, and Britain. Several questions asked by the members were then discussed. CROCKFORD’S CLUB The second evening’s play of the open pairs tournament for contract bridge played at CrocrJord’s Club resulted as follows: —North and South; Mrs F. Banks and Miss Bromley Cocks 1 Mrs R. H. Hennah and Mrs P. E. Harne 2, Miss Peggy Norton and Mr D. T McCormick 3. East and West: Mrs A. S. Geddes and Mr E. F. Stead 1 Mrs Noel Laver and Dr. F. PRE-WEDDING PARTY To honour Miss Margaret Mclntosh, who is to be married this week, a “pancry” evening party was held in the Masonic refectory' at Cust. _ The guest of honour received many gifts for her future home. Songs were sung by Misses E. Mclntosh. Jean Lindsay, Mrs Overend, and Mr Kirkland. Among those present were Mesdames Wheeler, E. C. Ducat, J. Struthersi R. Thompson. T. Jackson, W. Rowe, W. Ball. A.
