SUPPLIES OF FENCING WIRE
SHORTAGE LIKELY TO CONTINUE [THE PRESS Special Service.] AUCKLAND, May 20. “It is evident that the shortage of fencing ' wire will continue; but an efforts will be made to do what is possible to ease the situation, said the Director of Primary Production, Mr R. B. Tennent, in a letter received by the Auckland District Council of Primary Production. Mr Tennent said the shortage had been aggravated by the coal stoke in Australia, which was the source of most of the Dominion’s supplies. Recently the Government had taken steps to land a shipment from Canada, and a small quantity, of-barbed, wire had been procured from Japan. The total from the two countries amounted to only 1300 tons, and some of it would be required for industrial purposes such as nail making.
